Podium alternatives
Podium vs Cleo: what to compare for dealership phone calls.
Podium describes itself as AI for car dealerships that works sales and service leads across text, web chat, email and phone. Cleo is an AI phone agent for dealership calls. If your question is what happens when the service line rings, here is a fair side-by-side, taken from each company’s own pages.

Side by side
Podium and Cleo on what to compare.
| What to compare | Podium | Cleo |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Describes itself as AI for car dealerships: Jerry, “your AI Employee, works every sales and service lead,” and Operator, “the AI agent for GMs.” Podium also lists Podium Phones, “a VoIP phone system built for small businesses.”Source: Podium for dealerships, Podium Phones | An AI phone agent for dealership service calls. Cleo answers, books service appointments into your scheduler, and hands the call to your team when a person is needed. |
| Phone calls and after hours | Says “Voice AI answers every call” and that Jerry “answers service calls and books appointments 24/7.” Podium Phones can text missed or after-hours callers and route after-hours calls to extensions, numbers or voicemail boxes.Source: Podium for dealerships, Podium Phones | Answers your service calls, day or night. At El Cerrito Honda, 34 of 112 appointments booked in 30 days were booked while the dealership was closed. |
| Booking into your scheduler | Says Jerry “connects to your DMS” and that “Podium connects to the systems you already use.” The pages we reviewed do not name the service scheduler Jerry books into.Source: Podium for dealerships | Books into Xtime at El Cerrito Honda, and Dealer-FX lists Cleo in its integrations directory. Cleo also books through CDK and Tekion online scheduling. In its service appointment booking workflows, Cleo asks the scheduler for open times before it offers any and says the appointment is booked only after the booking succeeds. Confirm your own scheduler with every vendor.Cleo with Xtime →Cleo with CDK and Tekion → |
| BDC overflow and handoff | Says Jerry can “hand off leads to your sales team when a buyer is ready,” and that an AI BDC “usually supports an automotive BDC rather than replacing it.”Source: Podium for dealerships FAQ | At El Cerrito Honda, “If a call is not answered within three rings in any department, Cleo steps in.” When no time is available, Cleo offers a callback from your team. When a booking fails, it creates a callback task for staff and does not retry. Cleo can also transfer a call to a person or department on your list of transfer destinations. |
| Beyond phone calls | Says its AI OS “responds to every inbound lead instantly across all channels; text, phone calls, webchat, social, and email,” and that Jerry brings “your CRM, inbox, and phones into one platform.”Source: Podium for dealerships FAQ | Cleo is an AI phone agent for dealership calls. This page covers only the Cleo phone service. Ask in a demo about anything else you need around it. |
| Setup time | Says its onboarding team “aims to have you up and running in days, not months,” with “White-glove onboarding within 48 hours of signing.”Source: Podium for dealerships FAQ | Before launch, confirm your scheduler connection, service rules, opening hours and escalation destinations, and ask each vendor for a written timeline. |
| Price | No price is listed on the Podium pages we reviewed. Its plans page says “talk to our sales team for details.”Source: Podium pricing | Cleo does not publish a price. Ask every vendor for a written quote, and see what to weigh when comparing prices. What to weigh → |

Calls Cleo answered at Stevens Creek Subaru, September 21 to October 20, 2026
447
Of those calls ended as a booked appointment (booking-outcome calls)
A booking-outcome call is a call that ended as a scheduled appointment in Cleo’s call log. It is not a completed appointment and it is not revenue: Cleo does not report whether customers arrived or what work was paid for. Booked appointments and transfers are separate outcomes, not a breakdown of the answered calls. These are one dealership’s results, not a promise of yours.
El Cerrito Honda, in a separate 30 days: 633 calls answered and 112 appointments booked, 34 of them while the dealership was closed.

What to compare
Three checks before you pick a phone agent.
01 · What answers the phone
Ask whether the voice product answers inbound calls live or follows up by text after a missed call, and which departments it covers. Test each vendor after hours and at your busiest time of day, and note which calls end in a booking.
02 · Booking into your scheduler
Confirm which scheduling system it books into, whether it checks open times before offering one, and what it says when no time is available or a booking fails. A message taken is not an appointment.
03 · One platform or one job
A platform that covers texts, web leads and calls can reduce the number of tools you run. A phone-focused agent can be easier to test on one problem. Decide which gap you are closing, then ask each vendor for the same numbers from one real dealership over the same 30 days.
Count outcomes the same way for every vendor. An answered call is not a booking, and a booked appointment is not a completed visit.
Before you sign
Questions to ask every vendor, Cleo included.
Ask for the same numbers
Ask each vendor for calls answered, appointments booked and after-hours bookings from one real dealership over the same 30 days, and for how it counts a booked appointment. Compare like with like.
Check the term and the exit
Ask what the contract term is, what it costs to add a location, and what you can export if you leave. Confirm your scheduler connection and service rules before launch.
